Hi, my name is Michele Pryor. I’m a special education teacher, former renter, recent homeowner and proud resident of our Alameda island home. I’d like to serve you on the Alameda City Council.

As a teacher, I know a thing or two about standing up to bullies, keeping an open mind, and creating spaces that are welcoming and inclusive. As a leader in the City of Alameda Democratic Club, I work hard to make our town live up to its values. As a labor organizer, I work every day to create pathways to the middle class.

What fires me up about Alameda is the immense network of communities we have forged in this city, bound together by the belief that we can live a life of purpose here. There are so many intelligent, compassionate and dedicated citizens serving the Alameda community. 

As an educator and special needs teacher, my specialty is bringing out the best in my students and helping them learn to cope with what is often a challenging life.

Alameda too faces many challenges, issues like housing affordability and career pathways to how we want to manage growth and change in our city. We need a City Council that profoundly understands these issues, listens to diverse viewpoints, and can work collaboratively with each other and the community to solve these challenges. 

What I bring to the City Council is the same tenacity and perseverance to make steady and meaningful progress as I teach my kids. There is nothing that can’t be done if we put our mind to it and are ready to work together.
